All too often, that intercultural diversity is dysfunctional. It is a source of conflict and misunderstanding.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. J-Global can help you transform global diversity into an engine of competitive advantage.
We do that with learning products and engagements that help you to understand the intercultural gaps that are creating friction. We then introduce proven techniques for successful intercultural management and communication.
We also help companies build solve their global management problems with a new hybrid management and HR system that combines the strengths of Japan’s team-based work style with fast-paced, competitive global business practices. We call it the J-Global way. Instead of incompatible systems operating in each market, the J-Global way provides one worldwide system that everyone can understand and work with.
If your company is global, intercultural diversity is an unavoidable fact of life. It can be a constant irritant and a roadblock to global success. Or it can be a fuel for creativity and success, the J-Global way.

The J-Global Story
J-Global was established in 2010, but the story begins long before then. CEO Jon Lynch and other founding members have been living and working in Japan since the 1980s, working with dozens of Japanese companies. We’ve had a front-row seat for the process of globalization over the last few decades and what we’ve seen has been alternately inspiring and alarming.
The inspiring part has been to see the unique strengths of the Japanese business culture in action. [examples] Japanese teamwork and the way knowledge seems to flow effortlessly through an organization would be the envy of the business world globally – if companies outside of Japan could only see and understand it better. Japanese quality assurance and kaizen are better known abroad but the cultural underpinnings of these practices are still not well understood.
What has been alarming is to see how Japanese companies have struggled to communicate effectively with their global counterparts. Language is an issue of course. But most of the miscommunication we see is a matter of faulty cultural assumptions and poor understanding of standard global business practices. [examples] Much of the progress global business has made in how to manage complex organizations and projects across borders seems to have passed Japan by.
So what we have seen time after time in globalizing Japanese organizations is two different business cultures, the Japanese system and Global standard practice, coexisting but not cooperating. Two opposing teams rather than one company working to a common purpose. And little has changed in 30 years.
It seemed to us there could be a better way. Why not take the best features of each of the two business cultures and blend them into one business management system? A Japan-Global system would be accessible to people from both cultures and stronger than either of them alone. This is the system that we set out to create 10 years ago and have been building and perfecting ever since. That’s how the J-Global Way was born.
It’s been a fascinating and rewarding journey. Each company we work with finds new and creative ways to join Japanese and Global practices into a hybrid method that works for them. [examples]. Over the years we’ve built these individual initiatives into a powerful J-Global system that can help any globalizing company bridge the gap between business cultures and create a one-company culture with all working together towards a common goal.
Today, J-Global’s intercultural management services and learning products are helping companies throughout Japan realize their global dreams. Finally, a multi-cultural business environment is becoming not a problem to be solved, but a powerful tool for growth and success.
