Global English Mindset
Intercultural Workshop A: 20 Rules for Executive Situations
Create positive relationships with global top executives, government, media and overseas staff.
Many top Japanese executives can’t build strong enough relationships with overseas counterparts because of cultural and language gaps
Enjoy friendly, clear, persuasive conversations with VIPs using the simple English you already know.
Understand how cross-cultural environments influence your work and planning styles, and learn the skills to smoothly implement teamwork, goal setting, processes and progress management remotely.
Event Details
The Purpose of this workshop:
Change to a positive mindset and understand intercultural communication basics as first step. Then it becomes easier to look confident and create strong relationships with VIPs, media, clients, partners, managers and staff in global executive intercultural situations, regardless of your English level, or if you are using an interpreter.
Who is it for?
Japanese CEOs and executives who will communicate in global business
How will participants benefit?
Make charismatic first impressions to build friendly relations when first meeting important people in English speaking global business
Learn useful key phrases and body language for key situations such as informal networking, speeches, coaching local leaders and talking to media. Learn skills to discuss strategic, interesting topics in basic English, with bilingual support as needed.
Talk in a clear, simple persuasive way when you make short key speeches – such as sharing your organization’s vision, values, mission and strategy, or congratulating, thanking or apologizing.
Workshop Methodology
Firstly, agree to change to “English personality,” learn to think in English and use open communication skills.
Clearly experience cultural differences and see why discussion, media interviews and negotiations need to be done in different way in English. For example maintaining eye contact and smiling for handshake or “cheers” is essential for building trust in global business , but many Japanese executives bow their head or look at their glass at this key moment.
Practice real situations such as VIP networking, writing, interactive meetings with local staff, inspiring speeches, and strategic presentations.
Change your mindset to coaching style for giving instructions and feedback to non-Japanese leaders, and feel positive about planning own learning.
Participate in full program or just shorter parts, scheduled to match an executive’s busy schedule: including sessions at meals or when traveling.
Program highlights
Useful before overseas postings, or for general global skills. Many Japanese executives promoted due to their skill in domestic business may be unaware how differently they need to behave, or lack confidence speaking English. We make it easy, fun and motivating to communicate in English situations.
Even using an interpreter is not effective if the ideas are not presented in a cultural style the audience can understand, and anyway body language and simple friendly “small talk” are important in making a positive impression.
Learn key differences in social interactions, media mindset, and leadership –practice them in simple role plays with key dialogs, adaptable for own use.
Bilingual text and activities allow confident participation by all English levels.
Modular style allows different ways to deliver these learnings: 1-1 full day coaching, or executive group short speech.

Yesterday’s seminar brought a new way of thinking for me and I learned a lot. I thought Jon was a wonderful person who understood the way of thinking of Westerners and Japanese people. I also want to absorb the good part of Western people’s way of thinking.

What our clients say about Global English Mindset
Thank you for the amazing session, I have attended many sessions, trainings and classes about global business, team, leaders and market which were not as interesting as today’s session because many of those teachers do not have enough business experiences in Japan and other countries.
